The UnionsWA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee ensures that issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers are brought to the forefront of union business. 

The committee consists of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander union members and officials from across Western Australia. 

The committee meets bi-monthly to discuss important issues, future events and helps to formulate the union response to significant anniversaries, weeks and days that celebrate the contributions of Aboriginal Australians and remembers their history.

Every two years the ATSI Committee has hosted events discussing historic and contemporary issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander working people and their unions.  You can view these addresses below.

On Monday May 10, 2021 the UnionsWA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee host a panel discussion - Past, Present and Future: Work and Social Justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The MC was Maxine Brahim and panel members were Colleen Hayward AM, Divina D'Anna MLA, Member for the Kimberley and Michelle Nelson - all Aboriginal women providing an important perspective.

On August 27, 2019 Senator Pat Dodson delivered an address on "Our Working History" covering a range of themes related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and work.

Marking the 50th anniversary of the 1967 referendum recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, on May 30, 2017, the Hon. Ben Wyatt MLA, WA Treasurer and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs delivered this address, also on the occasion of the issuing of the Uluru statement. The Treasurer, the first Aboriginal Australian to hold such an office, was introduced by Wayne Wood, Secretary of the Australian Services Unions (WA).
